I still love to read their HTML manual, the one page edition online.

I have Spring In Action (Manning Publications) and love it! It provides good conceptual understanding and code examples to work with.

go for the latest, If you want to start with a no annotations version for simplicity try 2.0
as far as book is concerned there is no better book than the spring documentation online
