Hi all,

I am currently working in an Indian MNC in production support for the past 3.8 years.I am interested in working in IT field.

But, i am really worried about a long term IT carrier in India. as it is very difficult to become a technical architect or

senior java architect by working in a service company.

Also in Indian service companies after some span of time, people tend to move into management roles like Project Manger etc

where the work is purely non-technical. If one chooses to stay in technical role itself, then he will be confined to the

same salary/ very little pay hikes.

Also getting into product companies like Google,Yahoo etc.is very difficult, especially for people like me because it has

been almost 3.5 years i am away from development

I am sure if one wants to become a technical/senior architect in any technology, then he/she has to migrate to either the

US,UK or Australia(I am not sure) where opportunites are more and also one can hope to get good salary.

Unfortunately, in the current scenario post-recession many western countries are practising protectionism which means it

is going to be really difficult for people like me to pursue a technical carrier there.

I am really worried about this.

Can you people please advise / help me in this regard?

Thanks,
Raghu

Go for SCBCD / SCDJWS / SCEA certifications and participate in some OpenSource projects. This would in turn improve your coding skills and in turn offset your experience with only production support and along with your certification, you will be ready for facing technical interviews in any company.

There are many options open to you. Technical certifications, open source projects, working for IT charity etc etc. Whether you make an architect out of yourself is in your hands.

Go for certifications like I have mentioned to widen your knowledge in J2EE and after that I'm sure you will find confidence in you though you work in Production support.
