Help me with this GUI

Sorry to start my posts with a question....

I'm new into the world of java. I was given an assignment on creating a GUI for snake and ladders. They provided the image and asked to remake it.

I tried JTextArea and JTextField. I'm unable to set the location of JTextArea using setLocation method.

And JTextFiled has only one row, so I think I can't use it.

I want something like 100 X 100 px box on which I can place numbers (String).

Please help me regarding how to make this GUI.

Update:

I used 10 X 10 gridLayout.... and it seems to be fine. But please help me out if there are traps in my way.

Thats the approach I would take. Now you and add labels with text to each grid.
