"Must allow the user to search?"

Hi Fellow Bloggers,

I have a question about the 3 search modes that must be implemented by the User Interface in the B&S assignment.

Indeed, there's a clear "must" requirement that says:

SCJD Assignment wrote:It must allow the user to search the data for all records, or for records where the name and/or location fields exactly match values specified by the user.

Roberto Perillo wrote:
This means that the user must be able to search for (a) all records, (b) name AND location (that is, when both name and location match a particular criteria) and (c) name OR location (that is, when either name or location match a particular criteria). So, there must be 3 types of search, and you must allow the user to define which type of search he/she wants.

The first mode "(a) all records" is the mode that confuses me. You can retrieve all records, but how can you search for all records? What is the search criteria when searching for "(a) all records"? Is there any search criteria other than searching for records that have not been deleted?

Please comment. Thanks.

Howdy, Harry!

Champ, I think I got your question. There isn't really a "criteria". The thing is, your GUI must have a way to retrieve all records that haven't been deleted from the database/server. It should be pretty simple

Hi Harry,

I used an array with all null-elements to retrieve all non-deleted records from the database file.

Kind regards,

Hi Harry,

I was confused with this too. It depends what one interprets as "search".

Google define:search - the activity of looking thoroughly in order to find something or someone

Such definitions do not mandate a criteria, just to get technical about it.

So I interpreted that "search for all records" to mean "retrieve all records". I'll be writing this in my choices.txt.

Hope that helps.
