JSF Validation

Ok, validation in JSF is giving me a little grief. And the books that are available right now aren't covering what I am trying to find out. Also, Sun's forum were no help, big surprise.
I am using the built in validateLength with JSF 1.0. The problem is that the error message is horrible.
Validation Error. Value is required
What I need to do is customize that message and I can't find any resources that really tell me how to do this. I know I can make my own validator class, but I am pretty sure I should be able to include this error information in my ResourceBundle somehow and direct the <h:message for=""../> to the appropriate error message for a specific field.
If anyone has any insight on how this can be done, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
