Hi,

Let's see you are Java Programmer or developer or any level.

If som1 has asked suddenly that how many classes you have written so far .

Is this question is legal to ask ?

If some1 like java Arch ask such question....what you can set in your mind about the question is correct or person is wrong ?

or not a correct question by the arch..

Please UseRealWords.

I think the question is perfectly legal to ask, but I would say it holds no real value. I mean, what if all you did was modify some code, and hadn't written any new classes? Do those count? Or if you have been coding in Java for 5 years, how many classes do you think a person could write in that time? I don't even have an estimate.

Its a bit of an odd question. Unless you are a student just starting out, the answer is liable to be in the thousands (if not tens of thousands).

Not sure what you gain by asking it either - its perfectly possible to have written written loads of classes - all of them poorly.

I find it a very odd question. Does a small edit to a file count?
I would answer: lost the count

Btw. what is a/the java Arch?

Edit: damm I'm slow

yes you are very correct !

Sometimes we change in old java files and sometimes if we get new req then we write new java class..

what i said in interview that i don't remember or any estimation i have..

But some1 didn't think before asking this question or i even not expecting from at least java Arch who would have at least 7-10 Years of exp in working with java .

what do you think.

What i mean to say if some 1 like java Architect ask in interview (how many classes you have written ?) means either

he is ignoring the candidate(i mean underestimating him/her )

what i can expect from him ?

I'm sorry, I'm having trouble understanding what you are saying here. Are you asking what we think of a java architect with 7-10 years of experience asking the question? I think they should know that particular question would be of little/no use.

Are you asking what we think of asking an architect with 7-10 years experience that question? I have no idea what the answer would be for them. Again, I feel it is a useless question.

This is like asking a journalist how many paragraphs they've written.

ya defiantly, i was really discourage and thinking about whether they have requirement of this position or not !

or just doing or playing with some1 ego..Selection or Rejection in any job or interview doesn't matter much but the way people gets rejected which matters more.

It should n't be asked by the Java Lead or Project Manager i think so !

Imagine the performance reviews at that company: "I see you've successfully shuffled 120,000 papers last year. Good job! We're going to challenge you with additional paper shuffling responsibilities in the future."

I am not going to out the name of the employer.

But i am quite confident that what i know and in which extent i can convince in Interview and at what level.

I have been rejected but i don't know why ?

because as i have already cleared 1st Full technical Round of 45 min..i had answered and convienced well in 1st round of interview that's why i have selected in Technical interview.

But as i say its Managerial level discussion where asking these types of question

i) How may classes you have written so far in your career ?
ii) j2sdk and jdk 1.5
iii) Difference between eclipse or RAD Tool

and then rejects candidate in interview for job..

I think its good for me and what ever happens is for some good reason.

I can think that what kind of role and responsibility i can get under such Team or Manager.

do you agree with me ?

I think this discussion is no longer "beginning Java" and is getting out of hand, so I am pulling rank . . .
