Class files don't go to java's bin directory. They stay in the same directory as the source file (.java), unless you tell the compiler to store them in a different location (using the -d flag of the java compiler)

They should be located in the same location where they would be if compiled in Windows XP. In what folder were you when you compiled? What was the exact compile command?

Moving to Beginning Java.

Don't put your own files in the installation folder. They might interfere with the installation, and might vanish when you install an updated version of Java.

Do this, next time you open a command prompt

mkdir java
cd java

Obviously you can choose a different name for the directory. Now you can find all your Java work by writing

cd java

whenever you open a command line.

And welcome to JavaRanch

Thanks for your advice.
