RMI exception

Hi... everyone..
I have a very strange problem...

Scenario1.) I have two .ear files and have deployed them on my local server . One of them uses a inputBeanName as a key to perform a lookUp from the other ear. This is working fine on the local server and i am getting the desired output.

Scenario2.) Now i deploy both of these .ear on my development server.. and now when i try running the aplication , I am getting a
java.rmi.marhsal exception... more broadly a java.io.NotSerializableException...

Now there are two things to note..
a.) I am not getting any such error on my local server , In both the cases the only communication is between the two ear and in both cases the ear are deployed on the same server

b.) The file that is being looked up or the input bean as such is not serializable and cannot in any case be serialized..(out of box)

and there are some things that i wanted to ask as well..

Q1.) How do two ear communicate between themselves.... Is it RMI call..?? or some other protocol..
Q2.) If i am not getting the error on the local server but am getting so on the development server, what could be the possible reason
Q3.) Is there any way in Webspere RAD to find out , whether twoe ar are running within the same JVM instance or not.
