Hi

Just want you opinion what I'm going through right now with regards to the certification. I've manage to pass SCJP 5 last week (86%) and I have an existing voucher that will expire come april 2010. I'm plan to take SCWCD but its to early for me to take it, I would estimate that I must study for it a least a month and do a freelance project before attempting the exam.

With this, I thought of getting the SCJP 6 exam and try my luck come early or late march. Would it matter if I have 2 SCJP certification with different versions? I know for a fact that employers could just conclude that I am certified but for me its more of an award and a solid proof that I can pass the SCJP exam regardless of its version.

how about you? how would you handle such?

If otherwise your voucher will expire I would just give it a try. In the worst case will fail and you'll still have your old certificate.
The certificates don't expire but get old because of new version of java so updating your certification is always a good thing.

as you passed scjp 5 last week only there is no chance of failing scjp 6. But i think if you have to give atry then why not scwcd. I don think having 2 scjp's is going to benefit you in job search one is enough but if you give scwcd and clear it you have 2 different certificates which can be beneficial. and you have 3 months which I think is enough to prepare and clear the exam.

There is very little difference between SCJP 5 and 6, in my opinion it's not worth the time and effort to do SCJP 6 if you are already SCJP 5 certified. The small difference will not mean that your knowledge is suddenly worth a lot more to prospective employers. A certification from the next level, such as SCWCD, would be much more worthwile.

If you feel that you don't have enough time to prepare for SCWCD before the voucher expires, you could try selling the voucher to someone else.

Have a look at our SCWCD FAQ and the SCWCD Forum.
