i posted a question over here is the answer correct??

Its a simple question from OCP introduction to oracle 9i book and i know the answer, i just wanted to confirm it because book says something else. So i posted the question over here. Nobody bothers to answer but ready to mention policy which says i have to mention source of the question.

I am not against the policies and i know why they are needed. But in above case, someone could have answered it without bothering about the source of the question because its irrelevant.

do you think we have tooooo many policies???

On one hand you say you are against policies and know why they are needed. On the other hand, you say someone could have answered it because its irrelevant.
If you felt, you were not violating the policy, couldn't you have quoted the source, which you have already mentioned above?

do you think we have tooooo many policies???

I don't think so. The policies are one of the reasons why the Ranch is such a friendly place. Dont you agree?

This question would be more suitable on the Ranch Office forum. Moving.

I agree ranch is a friendly place because of many good policies. But sometimes it doesn't serve the purpose of having a forum. Instead of helping people with their questions(if we can), what we give them is a policy when its not really important. Ok... I am not the one who decides whats important and whats not. Policies are defined by many wise and experienced people so they must be useful only. I just expressed my view...

@Maneesh - ok... i will mention source of the question in my post and then lets see if it helps...

If it wasn't important, then there would have been no such policy. Don't you think so?

As for the policy around quoting of sources, have you read this, which explains the reason behind this policy?

A lot of the time, the moderator doesn't KNOW the answer. I personally have chosen forums to moderate that i know NOTHING about, precisely because I want to learn. So, I would be reading through all the posts, and come across one like yours. I can't give you an answer, but my job is to enforce our policies.

so what am I supposed to do? Are you suggesting that I not do my job because I don't know the answer?

Well, with your specific example about quoting sources it has a very valid reason. We require sources cited so we know that the question came from a reputable source. Since it is against Sun's (Oracle's) policies to allow real exam questions posted we need verification that the questions posted aren't. This helps maintain the Ranch's integrity in the Java community, plus it helps us to make sure those getting certified know the material and not just memorized a bunch of answers.
