I didn't see a welcome forum but I wanted to stop in and say, "Hi." So, HI!

I taught myself programming 25 years ago. I started with BASIC and moved on to Pascal. I have picked up countless scripting languages over the years. I graduated to C++ and that's where things lay dormant for many years. I had to grab the bootstraps and learn ASP seemingly overnight to get a dot-com off the ground. That was 10 years ago and we're still thriving today.

Of course all that self taught programming comes along with some bad habits. Habits I'm hoping to kick.

The real surprising thing is I've never done any visual programming. I have a very basic understanding of OO programming and concepts.

Why am I here? In a nutshell, Android. I have a deep seeded desire to code. Our environment at work has progressed to ASP.NET C# and as such left me to do other things. I wanted to learn C# and then I got an Android phone. I promptly installed Eclipse, the JDK and the Android Development Kit. I followed the tutorial for Hello Android and I'm hooked.

I purchased Head First Java and Head First Design Patterns. The Java book told me to come here and join. So, I'm here! I'm ready to learn and maybe I'll even be able to contribute a thing or two.

As a matter of fact it WAS Turbo Pascal! And Turbo C/C++! I still have my old book with the edges taped up. Only dabbled in assembly when trying to fix other's code and/or figure something out that people didn't want figured out ;)
