Advice in Career change

Hello All,

I am about to appear for SCJP - 6, but have a confusion in my mind.
I am not getting how can SCJP help me with regards to getting job.I have experience with Web Development(Php,MySql) ,but have no experience in java.

Can anyone guide regarding finding a job in java when having no experience in it, but an SCJP certification.

Opinion only... take with grain of salt.

There is no guarantee that you will get a job offer based on the SCJP. In fact, I think it is close to zero chance of that. There is no guarantee that you will even get more interivews because of the SCJP. Sorry.... Hopefully, you were not expecting a job based on getting a piece of paper.

IMO, the advantage of the SCJP is not the certification, but the skills acquired while getting the certification. Hopefully, you remembered what you learned. Hopefully, you remembered how to research the stuff that you learned. This (along with the confidence of knowing the subject) will help you in getting and doing the job.

I think Henry has summed it up well. What you study in certification can help you at the interview, but if you can't get to an interview how will it be useful? Finding the first job is always challenging for anyone, so you need to find ways to get some hands-on experience in Java through avenues like

-- Part-time or full-time voluntary work. Voluntary work can not only give you the much needed experience, but also open doors for paid work through contacts.

-- Gain some hands on experience throgh open-source and self-taught projects to put on your resume.

-- Improve your overall job hunting skills like writing an effective resume, networking skills, communication skills, etc.

-- Finally being patient and keeping at it. Don't give up. Once you get an initial break, it will be a much smoother sail.
