This week's book giveaway is in the General Computing forum. We're giving away four copies of Arduino in Action and have Martin Evans, Joshua Noble, and Jordan Hochenbaum on-line! See this thread for details.
By popular demand, we have decided to open a Flex forum covering issues relating to Adobe Flex, Adobe Flash Builder (the name for the next version of Flex), and ActionScript. For those new to Flex, it's sort of like Java code that compiles to a Flash application. Although ActionScript is technically not Java, the syntax is quite similar and many Java developers find comfort in the Flex world. The UI feature set for Flex is much nicer and cleaner than a lot of the stuff available in Java Swing, so I like to think Flex gives Java developers the chance to create really beautiful UI's.
Flex has a number of competing technologies like Microsoft Silverlight and Java FX, but has the greatest market share at the moment since everyone (except iPhone and iPad users) has flash plugins within their browsers.
We hope this forum will be a place for new and experienced Flex developers to discuss and work through issues together, while also having a good time!
I would like to say thank you to the folks on the Java Ranch for openning this Branch. I am still receiving positive input for the BFlex (Sungard Banner Flex Community) regarding interest.
I will also inform the Java User Groups in this area about the status of the new branch as well.
I will be aheading out the Sungard Summit 2010 in April and I plan on pushing hard of the Sungard Representatives to drive more discuss and direction this way regarding the lease of Flex enabled products for Banner.
Again, thank you for your prompt response to this request.
