Which weighs more: a one ounce gold coin or a one ounce feather?

They both weigh an ounce! But, if you are talking troy ounces for the gold, then the gold would weigh more, I believe.

Oh, nice one. I figured I sucker in a few people at least. Yes, a one ounce gold coin is equivalent to 31 grams, and one ounce of just about anything else is 28 grams. Unless you're measuring liquids, where an ounce would be a fluid ounce, and the weight dependent on what the liquid is. What a goofy system!

Indeed, what a mess, why are people still using such a medieval system in the twenty-first century?
It's even worse than you think. From Wikipedia:
International avoirdupois ounce = 28.3495231 g
International troy ounce = Apothecaries' ounce = 31.1034768 g
Maria Theresa ounce = 28.0668 g
Dutch metric ounce = 100 g (yes, people use that here, but at least it's sensible with regard to the metric system)
Chinese metric ounce = 50 g
Similarly to the Dutch metric ounce, we have a metric pound, which is 500 g (a UK or US pound is 454 g).
