You can set all your environment variables in Win9x in the autoexec.bat file. You definitely need to set (or change) PATH and CLASSPATH. Setting JAVA_HOME is useful, but is not required to start running
java.
By the way, I recommend that you start with something simple, like HelloWorld or the first Cattle Drive assignment, before you jump into
servlets.
