SOAP encoding and mapping non-XML based data

Good Day,

On page #34 of the comprehensive SCDJWS 5 Study Notes by Ivan A Krizsan version: September 13, 2009, it lists the following as the first bullet point -

SOAP encoding:
- Describes how to map non-XML based data to a format that can be transferred in SOAP messages.

I'm not clear about this point. Can somebody please elaborate on it?

Regards,
Dan

Hi!
I must admit that the first sections of my study notes are of a lower quality than the later parts.
I also admit that I was preciously uninterested in SOAP encoding, since it is not allowed by the WS-I Basic Profile.
With that said, I will try to clarify:
Data, such as numbers in different formats, need to be serialized (to strings) before they can inserted into (some place in a) SOAP message.
This is what mapping of "non-XML based data to a format that can be transferred in SOAP messages" is.

Have you read the reference given on the middle of the page in question?

It was something that at least I found helpful.
Best wishes!

Thank you Ivan.

The work that you did is simply outstanding and if you don't mind I'll bring up the issues that are not totally clear to me.

Dan

Of course not - I really appreciate all the questions, it has helped me tremendously to solidify my knowledge.
I just wish I had more time to write an even better version of the study guide. Ah-well, perhaps in the next incarnation.
Best wishes!
