Looking on my Mac, I see
ls -l /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions total 8 drwxr-xr-x 5 root wheel 170 Dec 4 00:04 1.8 lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 3 Dec 4 00:04 Current -> 1.8
So - the version of Ruby that is installed by default as part of OS/X 10.6 is not MacRuby. Further info:
$ ruby --version ruby 1.8.7 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 72) [universal-darwin10.0]
MacRuby is 1.9 according to their website.
