I was wondering if anyone here has tried to replace a logic board on a nonworking HDD. I have 2 that I am trying to find donors for.... one Seagate and one Maxtor.
I know it's a shot in the dark, but my clients don't have money for professional drive recovery services, and they know this is a last ditch effort....
Additionally, has anyone tried freezing a nonworking HDD? Does it bring it back to life?
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
I had a bad HDD. I tried swapping logic boards with another drive of the same make/model, and I also tried freezing the drive. Neither worked.
Of course, switching the logic board should work if the fault lies in the board. And freezing is supposed to help if the bearings are locked up. But if you have an actual head crash, which I think is what I had, then neither measure helps.
