If you are new to Java you can start with "Head First Java". This is a very good book for beginners.

Dont think about the time limit. start learning Java, The day you realise you can give exam go for it.

I think it is hard to tell anyone about the time he will take to learn something.

Welcome to JavaRanch.

Have a look at the Java Beginners FAQ. If you are totally new to Java, then Sun's Java Tutorial is a good place to start.

First learn some Java before you start thinking about the SCJP - the SCJP will be much harder if you have almost no experience with programming in Java. See our SCJP FAQ for more information.

As Brij says, it's very hard to tell you how long it will take you to prepare for SCJP, because we don't know anything about you, how much you already know about programming, etc.

Hi Jatin,
Complete Reference is a great book....But since you want to crack SCJP read that book once get your concept right and then go for K & B book for SCJP.
