Do we need to have a KDC to run a GSS API example?

Hi all,

I am new to GSS API, so I wanted to run an example of it. I found an example, http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/security/jgss/tutorials/BasicClientServer.html.

But in this example, it seems that I require a Keberos server or KDC. Do I really need a KDC to run this example? From where do I get one?
Can "apache DS" act like a KDC?

This line on the example really confused me on whether we need a KDC or not,
"As with all tutorials in this series, the underlying technology used to support authentication and secure communication for the applications in this tutorial is Kerberos V5. See Kerberos Requirements."

When I went to see the Kerberos requirements, it seemed that the example required a KDC to run it.

Could someone tell me what I need to run this example?

I have implemented the kerberos protocol and made a KDC, as part of my academic assignment. But I have not used a third party one. And I want to know how to use a third party KDC.

Thanks,
harke
