high level picture open source taglibs

After reading about custom tags in the well known SCWCD exam study kit,
and playing with them for some time now.
I would like to get a high level picture of the usage of open source taglibs within large J2EE projects.

1. Which taglibs are most commonly used?
2. What are the most common pitfalls when taglibs are used.
3. Can JSF, JSTL, Struts, ... coexist.
