This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
Welcome to the forum, my question is: if I'm new to JPA but tried Hibernate, should I get this book or something like "starting with JPA". Basically I want to ask if the book expects the reader to know JPA or there's some introduction to get started.
We wrote the book explicitly to bring a reader from knowing nothing at all about JPA to being an advanced JPA-er. (That is why we had a hard time keeping it under 500 pages!) From all reports I think people find it very easy to read and learn from. The intermediate developers sometimes find the second chapter a little basic, but I just tell them to skip it if they already know JPA. The rest brings beginners up to intermediates at a fairly comfortable pace.
