Devaka's SCJP 6.0 Exam and Windows 7

Hi All,

Sorry for posting a new topic here i know its already a two page thread, but i couldn't seem to find the reply button on any post there. I have tried installing Devaka's Exam on both Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 7 Starter both give me access violations hen installing the dlls for the JET drivers, even in Administrator mode. My Ultimate is running in a SunVirtual Box, on an Intel Mac, but I don't believe this should cause any issues, particularly as Windows is running fine, the Windows starter is on my little MSI Wind netbook, again Windows runs fine, any heads up on what I can do?

I have admired Devka's Devaka's exam and his generosity in making the effort to put it out there for free, its real community spirit. I had the 5.0 exam running on an old work machine, but since i moved jobs were all on Linux, and I'm on a Mac at home, I would really like to get it going on W7.

Cheers

Ok I've given it a go on Windows 7 ultimate, and Windows 7 starter, with the vista betas, and there are a number of issues.

On windows 7 ultimate, the JET driver installation fails when trying to install some dll files, the error is on an access and /or sharing violation. Please note this is running install as administrator also. At one stage i managed to install it, register (though it asks me every time) but on the starting screen the exam buttons (to choose what exam) fail to work, and nothing happens.

On windows 7 starter, after 3 attempts as administrator it installs and runs with the same registration questions asked each time however, due to the application running in full screen console, its too big a resolution for a netbook and the buttons are unavailable on the screen real space, making it impossible to use the program. The window size appears to be set at a pre defined size, so it cannot be set to fit the current netbook screen resoultion, nor any laptop with a smaller screen which is a shame, it would be good to have it on my netbook.

So until these issues can be addressed, I would say that the SCJP examlab is incompatible with Windows 7 and with laptops or machines with a small screen resolution and size (id say under 15").

I hope perhaps one day a smart person can port it to mac, then us mac users would get a chance to benefit from this generous free offering, without having to run a vm or find a windows machine.

I am just curious about whether you tried installing ExamLab on your Mac via Bootcamp or Parallels.

I have to say, neither as I am a mac person, I dont want my drive partitioned with windows, thank you ;-) I used Sun's VirtualBox to create a VM image. However, my MSI Wind netbook runs Windows 7 starter as standard

Aha, I too am a committed Mac OS X person and was also reluctant to partition my Mac with windows to run ExamLab. I just wanted to know if anyone tried. Hmmm, perhaps " there's an app for that" on the iPhone.

JET driver is NOT bundled with the beta version, and it is not required. Please try it with the beta version which I mentioned previously.
