Thanks, Lasse (hey, long time no see!). I'd also add that most good information in the Ruby world travels via blogs. My suggestion is: find a good RSS/Atom aggregator and begin with one or two good feeds (infoQ and Artima Ruby Buzz are good entry points), read promising entries, and follow links to find other blogs to start following.
Also look at the Rails Envy podcast. These guys are very good at keeping on top of things in the Rails/Ruby community, and they also quote many good blog posts - more aggregator fodder.
