Hello everyone.

I'm a little bit concerned regarding the syllabus of scjp 1.6 since i saw the syllabus on the official site which seems a little different to me than it was before, i urge everyone to have a look and let me know if at all there are any changes from the past. The link is :
SCJP 1.6 Syllabus.
I just want to confirm if at all there are any changes or not. I'm studying from K & B and would like to confirm the syllabus is same as mentioned in it or not. Help me on this....

The objectives were changed some time ago so the objectives of the K&B book might not exactly match that of the site. The changes included removing Serialization from the exam. So study only the topics from the book which are actually there on the objectives on Oracle's site...

Thank you Ankit for your valuable reply.

But i just want to know that apart from serialization, what all topics have been removed(if any).
And if any other topics are added, then please do mention about it!!!

I am confused about the same as well. Can someone please help us with the updated syllabus. What are the topics that have been removed or added to the new syllabus. Are there any topics we need to concentrate/study more.

Hello,

Seems like Serialization has been removed from exam objectives. Number of questions are reduced from 72 to 60.
I read some post in the forum telling statics have been removed as well, but i am very unsure about the last statement.
Lets see if someone else knows more details.

Best Regards,

The SCJP exam seems to change all the time. Also, the questions in your SCJP exam will be generated by some kind of randomizer so that it is possible that you will not get questions about BufferedReaders, for example. The real truth is that you will find out what is in the SCJP exam when you take it. Therefore, it is almost a futile effort to ask what was taken out and what was added. Just use the official list of SCJP exam topics that have been provided to us.

I guess Larry is right. It is going to generate questions as a randomizer so we might get questions about topics we are skipping. So lets
thoroughly prepare K&B.

Thanks, Prithvi. Other JavaRanch members have said that preparing for the SCJP exam is to become a better Java programmer after all, not just to pass the test. The job interviewers will actually assume you know more Java than what was in your SCJP exam. So, in the short amount of time that you have for preparations, the best advice is to pay attention to all the listed exam topics.

Thanks Larry and Prithvi. I agree with you both about learning everything that's included in K&B. I just wanted to be sure if nothing new was added.
