Hi Everybody,

I want to pass my SCJP exam and I'm thinking of taking a month off to complete it. My Java is ok, but I do think I'm going to need to work to do get the SCJP. Can anyone recommend an intensive training course? Or just offer advise?

One thing I would recommend is that you take it at your own time. Don't rush it.

I started my prep in Feb last year, but then I was very busy with college and stuff so I just stopped at around May 2009. I resumed my prep in Jan this year. I am pretty sure that if I would have given the exam two months ago, I would have passed it. But I took a month just solving mocks and asking doubt and finally gave the exam 10 days ago and passed it.

Don't take time off to give the exam if it will affect your work. Take it at your own time.

Hello Gaz,

First of all, Welcome to Java-ranch.

Well, you decided to land at the correct place to prepare for SCJP. Well it depends on how good you are at java, else
if you constantly work hard, it takes about 1-2 months to prepare for SCJP.

These are the steps you can follow

1- Buy K&B book for SCJP 6. This is the best resource to prepare for SCJP.
2- After finishing the book, appear for the Master Exam. Analyze your score and pay attention to the area's you have scored less.
3- Download the ExamLab simulator and try your luck with it.
4- For a list of SCJPMock tests, click this
5- Keep looking at the forum and post questions on concepts where you find difficulty.

Hi Gaz,

Tips hmm let me think ok.

I think best idea to start with SCJPFAQ read the FAQ which will tell you all details what you need for the exam.but read some good book about SCJP certification, you mention you have only one month.but understanding the concepts you need to do alot of practice means write alot of codes . write small programs which will makes your concepts clear . and i think coderanch is best forum if you are confused in some topics ask here.there are alot of questions which is already being asked you can search those topics and read it.i think in my point of view key is mock exams and alot of practice of codes.

Best Regards

I have had a look at the questions here:

Scored 85% to 90%, where do you think that puts me in terms of knowledge for the SCJP?
