So, in addition to needing parallels or whatever you guys think is best, I guess I also need a windoze copy of access?!? Is that right?

I'm guessing (and thrashing), that perhaps I'd install, say parallels, then once in parallels I'd install a version of M$ access intended for a PC?

Is that right? arg....

Then later would I be able to 'access' the 'access' files i made in parallels when I'm in good old OS X ?

arg... oh how I hate this ...arg!!!

Yes, you'll need to install Access (or Office, or whatever it comes with) once Windows is installed to tun Access itself, but probably not just to access it through ODBC.

No, there is no Access port to Mac OS X, and I'm not sure that there are any Mac DB's (FileMaker Pro perhaps?) that can read proprietary Access files. Maybe you could export it to SQL or CSV?

So sorry. I feel for you.

Access is part of the Microsoft Office suite, which, I thought was available for mac.

Also, the application "Access" and the Microsoft Jet Database engine are often confused.
If you only need to read and write from a Jet database (.mdb file) you don't need to actually buy Access.
There is a odbc-jdbc bridge that ships with Java (or used to anyway, I haven't looked for it in a long time).
You would just need to install enough of Windows to create an ODBC entry.

In Office for Mac, Access is omitted (no Vizio either), and Outlook is replaced by Entourage*

* Entourage actually makes Outlook look good -- it's that bad. Luckily Snow Leopard eliminates the need for Entourage.
