you should ask this question to yourself I would say SCJP preparation helps you to learn Java in a more detailed way! And definitely it will add more value to your cv when you start your career. In some job requirements SCJP is becoming a "required" thing rather than "optional" or "nice to have"! It doesnt mean that you will become a great programmer just by passing SCJP. I am an experienced professional J2EE programmer, but I learned a lot of stuff while preparing for SCJP. This transforms a good programmer to a better programmer. I am sure that I would never bother to learn all these subtle things in real life projects. With an IDE and google, you don't need to worry whether my code gives a compile error or throw an exception at runtime or whethere this method returns a SortedSet<E> or does it returns a NavigableSet<E> or how many objectes are eligible for Garbage Collection after running line #19 and things like that. But SCJP preparation cleared a lot of basics and I learned a lot of new things and I am glad that I started it Dont go for it just for the sake of certificate. Use this time to learn and understand the Java concepts and use SCJP as a stepping stone to other Java / professional certifcations. Good luck!

Hi,
Certifications are anyway an international standard. Prepare honestly and you will know the difference.
Will teach you all those basics and small things which we as programmers mostly ignore.
Best Regards,
