Can't download non-relational database file from the assignment page

Hi guys,

I've just purchased the assignment part of SCJD and I logged in to Prometric website and even though I can see the assignment page (with all the requirements), when I try to download the database file, it seems that a htaccess login box appears and the username and password I use (the same as for Prometric account I just created to purchase the exam) don't work. I have less than 2 hrs to download the file. Anyone knows which username/pass I should use and what I should do in this case?

Thanks,
Evelina

[edit]removed the link to the database file

Hi Evelina,

Welcome to the JavaRanch!

As you know Sun is obtained by Oracle and they changed the process of downloading and uploading an assignment. So you are one of the first people who (apparently) have to download their assignment through the prometric website (before downloading/uploading happened via a sun website). So I think your best change will be to contact prometric and ask them the credentials to download the assignment (database file).

Kind regards,
Roel

Hi Roel,

Thanks for your quick answer. I've already sent a mail to who2contact@sun.com telling them about the situation. Unfortunately, right now is night in USA, and by the time they wake up, my assignment will expire.

Thanks,
Evelina

Hi Evelina,

I don't think that email address is the good choice (many threads on this forum indicate that you have to wait more than 1 week for an answer). I would try to contact the place where you bought the voucher or to contact prometric directly (by phone if it is urgent and by mail to have evidence afterwards to prove you complained)

Kind regards,
Roel

ps. don't quote an entire post (has no added value at all)

Hello,

Of course, the time expired without me being able to download the files and without receiving an answer from sun or prometric. I've sent a lot of mails to sun, prometric (even the representative in my country)...I am still waiting for an answer. This situation is really stressful. I hope they will understand and provide me the necessary files. Not to mention the fact that on the main site, the price shown is $125 and when I actually purchased the exam (I am from Romania), the cost was $300. Very upsetting Very disappointing process, I also had difficulties with SCJP voucher. Anyway...

Thanks again for your help. I will keep you guys posted, in case someone else goes through the same thing.

Hi Evelina,

If it may comfort you a bit: 300 dollars is the normal price you have to pay for the assignment (if you are outside the US, I paid a similar amount in 2007). But the service at the moment is indeed very disappointing. Let us hope it will be much better when the acquisition and reorganisations are completely finished.

Kind regards,

Good news

I've got the problem solved (and the files sent by email). So, in case something like this happens again, you should contact suncompetency@sun.com or SunCert@prometric.com

Thanks and good luck! I'll be roaming about the forum for advice on the SCJD assignment ;)

I've got the same problem. I've sent an email to both addresses listed, but first address (suncompetency@sun.com) bounces back immediately as failed - Reason: Remote SMTP server has rejected address.

Hope the second one is ok. Fingers crossed.

Robert.

You can also try gary.fluitt@oracle.com He sent me the zip by email.
Hope this helps.

That's another email address that hasn't responded, unfortunately.

On another thread in this forum, John Huntingdon mentioned he can't upload the assignment, and he's running up against his one year deadline. He has similar problems - no one responding at Oracle or Sun. He's even tried phoning people, and been put on hold for over an hour with no one speaking to him.

It's all very disturbing. I wonder if they're going to discontinue the SCJD test altogether? I wonder if I should pursue getting a refund for this through Visa?

Have tried all emails listed plus a new one that Prometrics told me to try certification@sun.com . No reply yet. Think Cindy is right. It will be a lot easier on the head to just get the money back.

Will give it a couple of days

Still no reply.

I was wondering what exactly is in the URLyBird database file. Is the file specific and confidential to a user when they purchase the exam or is it a general file (set of files) that is the same for all? If it's the latter, is it just a case of getting a copy?

Regards, Robert.

Hi guys,

Today something very strange happened. I received a mail from suncert_ww@oracle.com in which I was assigned another project (Bodgitt and Scarper) so now I ended up with 2 assignments (URLyBird was the first one, I downloaded when I paid the exam). I've replied asking for a confirmation...since I haven't coded extensively, it's ok for me to change the assignment but imagine if I had coded a lot...

Anyway, the procedure should be much simple now, as described here:

We are temporarily changing the process for this certification due to some systems changes related to the Oracle acquisition. Rather than download the assignment instructions and upload the assignment completions, we are simply sending it to you as an email attachment and you will send us back a JAR file. Please see your attached assignment.

When you have completed your SCJD assignment, please go to Prometric and take Part 2 of your certification. Part 2 is the exam 310-027, which you can register for at prometric.com/sun. We cannot grade your assignment (310-252A) without the completion of the essay (310-027).
When you are ready to send us your completed assignment you may email it to developer-submit@oracle.com. We will then collect your essay responses and send this off for grading. We will respond to you with a grade within 4-6 weeks.

Hope this helps.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
