We are a service based company. At times we have totally non-technical clients. They just tell us their problem in lay man terms. It is our job to understand their requirements, propose a solution and then implement it. Once the software goes in to production we keep on proposing new ideas keeping in mind the client’s specific market. In short, there is always someone who keeps on interacting with the client till the software is being used. Proposing new features even after the software has been released goes in our interest as it does bring in more business.
I was thinking that the title of a product manager would be suitable for a person who has these job responsibilities.
Service based companies do have such roles. They are called as 'Client Account Manager' or 'Delivery Manager' or 'Client Engagement Manager' in our company. I think the term 'Product Manager' seems relevant if you are a product development company.
