I am currently doing the prep work for the SCDJWS exam. Not studying yet, just reading around and generally getting assets sorted (Glassfish etc.). which leads me to my question.
I see that Glassfish 3 has landed and that support JEE 6, the current exam is only for JEE 5; do people have any ideas/feelings about doing this exam now? Is it likely to be quickly replaced? I can't see it myself as CX-310-230 seems very recent, but I still don't want to waste time studying for something that will soon get upgraded.
I must say that the size of the subject area is rather daunting, and I guess that explains the lack of books dedicated to CX-310-230. Thank goodness there are loads of good links in the FAQ!
I am thinking of buying RMH even though it is rather old, is it still a good book to use for the current exam?
I am also thinking of getting O'Reilly's "Java Web Services: Up and Running" and "RESTful Java with JAX-RS"; is that going to be overkill? I am hoping these could be useful references for work.
No doubt I'll be back over the next few weeks/months to ask more stupid questions...
I personally feel that RMH is a very good introductory book to web services and, in most parts, it is still valid for the current version of the certification.
The book on REST web services is also good, but I am not sure you need it for the certification since REST is not as extensively covered.
Metro, the web service stack used in GlassFish, has not undergone any major changes between GlassFish v2.1 and v3, so I'd say you can safely use GlassFish v3 when preparing for the exam.
Thanks Ivan, I'd prefer to get familiar with the latest version if possible; it will be around for longer.
Cheers Jothi, but that book is only on pre-order and is already out-of-date as it is for the previous exam.
