Hi All,

I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question but can someone please guide me on how to improve my designing skills? Everyone says you get it by experience, but I don't know how to start. I just know I would need a good amount of practice to get some confidence. I am not sure where to start, how to measure my progress. Would really appreciate it if someone could give me some guidance on this.

Thanks in advance,
Preethi

  • Ability to look at the big picture and drill down as and when required
  • A good understanding of the key areas of software design/development
  • Ability to look at things not only from a technical perspective but also from a business/stakeholder perspective
  • Attend design/technical sessions
  • Hang out with geeks

  • I can recommend Software Architecture in Practice , which is a very good book about software architecture, and Design Patterns by the Gang of Four, which is a great reference for any design patterns you might use.
