Why does this code only result in 2 EditTexts which are left aligned and not 4 editText's which are centered?
I'm using java code instead of xml because I need to create a lot of editTexts.

How about setting the orientation of LinearLayout to vertical?

Changing the orientation to vertical or horizontal (default) results also in just 2 editTexts.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
