Start with SCEA or SCWCD -> SCBCD -> SCDJWS first and then SCEA?

Hi Mark & Humphrey,

I've done my SCWCD and SCBCD is up in June. Maybe I'll do the SCDJWS before I do my SCEA, but thinking about it... And maybe not for me, but for others... Can you do the SCEA certification without doing the other three exams? And what would be your advice? Are the SCWCD, SCBCD and SCDJWS targeted for programmers and the SCEA for architects?

Cheers,

Johan

There are no prerequisites to the SCEA exam. You can find out more from the Oracle SCEA page.

If someone is going for SCEA I believe he should have a thorough knowledge in all three areas and many more to play the architect role in the real world.

Hi Vijitha,

I agree, but does an architect need to know all the nitty bitty details about how to configure a message driven bean or a webservice, or does he simply have to understand the bigger picture? Same question about the certifications. Do you really need to do SCWCD, SCBCD, SCDJWS before you do the SCEA? No is the answer (read from one of the responses above)

Cheers,

Johan

He might have done those in the past already (either by experience or learning for certifications etc..), but as an architect he might not do those but the developers. If the developer come up with an issue he should be able to solve it . But in huge companies (with big teams) architects may only work with the bigger picture of the system (After all I'm not an architect yet, these are what I have seen and experienced ).

Yes, it shouldn't be the certification itself but the working knowledge of those technologies what matters whether you get it either through certifications or by experience.
