Guidance on Frameworks

Good day everyone. Just started a new job working on Servlets. I have been gold prospecting since last summer. Yeah, I got gold fever. Someone finally gave me some medication to get over it. LOL... It tasted just like reality check and I could not deposit that in a bank.

Anyway, I have to start over collection various utilities and such since mine are not available to me anymore. I can get all the apache, and regular open source.

These servlets I am working on use Tomcat and three DB's Mysql, MSSQL, Oracle.

Does anyone know of some generic helper utilities for Collections, Properties, web containers etc... Just something that will give me a boost so I don't start writting it again?

Frameworks, anything good out? Looking for simple action based with client& server side validation?

Framework or whatever to do Rich client interactions, maybe just AJAX,

Framework for DB access? simple POJO, prefer type cast versus xml cross map unless it has good IDE integration?

and a big cheers to the new IntelliJ release 9. Awesome.

Anyhelp to get me going again would really be appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

Additional Information.

webapp uses JSP with only the standard set of tags. The sales team wants more rich client features, the example they give is OWA. There is no real POJO's or map from business object to database object. Accessors have the map and the sql all in one class. It's nasty. I have read many posts about frameworks and nothing is standding out.

Specific needs: Basic DB mapper to pojo should be easy to factor it into the existing source. Ideas on which might be best? I think KISS rule applys so things like hibernate are overkill for now.

Front end , ajax? JSF or Ices I am not familiar with.

The MVC Action is a custom JSP page. Don't even say it, I got a 800 lb elephant and it ust sat on me while the gorilla is laughing its head off.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
