Best resources for a former dev looking to reinvent himself as a Java Architect

I am going into my 3rd big career shift in the past 20 yrs and have recently taken a role as an Architect in the Detroit market.
While I have quite a bit of app dev experience, I have managed (how?) to not get into Java development before now... too
many of the plant floor applications in auto are old C-code, local VB applications, or low-level controls development (PLC ladder logic)

My new role does not require me to be a java guru, but I think it would help to get myself quickly immersed in the structure and
pitfalls of this lanuguage. Can any of the Java old-timers here help this old-timer with a pointer towards literature / web-sites
that can get me ramped up quickly it would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest the Head First book as a start point - I really liked the Head First Java book. (but I'm not a old timer - hope I'm not :-) )

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
