i have oracle 10g express edition and tomcat 5.5 installed on my system
both were working alone but when i tried working them simultaneously the tomcat doesn't allow
oracle to run.
if i start oracle and then run the "Go To Database home page " it works fine
but if i then start tomcat , it takes over and gives its own messages like requested resource not available
can someone help...???

Are these two applications configured to use the same ports?

Hi ankur,

There is a port conflict between tomcat and oracle xe embedded httpd server for apex on port 8080 by default.

Stop Tomcat, Edit $TOMCAT_HOME/conf/server.xml

Change port number to something that is not already in use (You can check it with $>netstat -an command line query).
Start Tomcat, and check new port for response from Tomcat.

Regards,

Fatih.
