I have a war file I want to wrap it in a ear file to deploy on Jboss. I have googled and there are lots of people asking the same thing but not many answers.

Well, put it in the ear. The only thing you really need to do beyond the normal specs for a War is to include a jboss-web.xml in the web-inf directory specifying the Web Root Example :

Thanks Carl I created the war then created the ear

jar cvf myear-3.0.0.ear . in the directory where I had my war file and a META-INF directory but the bit i missed out was the jboss-web.xml in my war WEB-INF folder, I will add that now.
