It has been my opinion for a long time that the healthiest thing for JavaRanch to have is a good and decent "meaningless drivel" forum.

There once was a time when it was easily the most robust forum on the ranch. And the content was excellent. Engineers tend to be rather smart, and loaded with fascinating knowledge about the arts.

And then 9/11 happened and it turned dark. Then I got sick of the dark stuff, and asked the staff to delete, delete, delete ....

So, now things are no longer dark and we have an opportunity to bring back the MD that once was.

I would like to encourage folks to fill that forum with interesting things. Let's see some discussion about literature, jokes, funny pics, art, addictive flash games, firefly and how incredibly hot the mechanic is, the tick, saving energy, frugal living, engineering dilemmas, science, stuff you can build at home, new technology, pie, travel plans, comic strips, music, movies, food other than pie, nasa, the big bang theory, math, health ....

As steward of this site, I've been trying to learn about stumbleupon and reddit. There are two great sources for interesting bits and bobs that would fit really well into MD.

I think a healthy and vibrant MD forum will have a large, positive impact on the whole community. Plus, I think it will just be cooler!

Thanks!
