Label/Color

If I right click on a directory/file, one of the options I see is Label. Besides looking different and nice, I am unable to figure out the utility value.
How do you guys use it? If I have decided to color code, say green as important and yellow as for later and red as can be ignored, can I view all green in one place? How do I sort on labels for directories/files inside a particular directory?

I am trying to understand what is the psyche and rationale behind providing this utility.

It's just for visual distinction.
