difference between #placeholder1# and $placeholder2$ in iBATIS

I was doing some hands on practice of iBATIS examples. In one of the example of WHERE clause I saw placeholders placed between the #placeholder#(pound) symbol and in another example the placeholder was in between $placeholder$(dollar) symbol.
Can you please tell me the difference between two.
