If you have time to waste, you can play PacMan on the Google banner.

Does anybody consider this banner as *not* green?

Many people have google as their home page. This game automatically starts in less than a minute. What if somebody does not want to play and left the tab open(I guess this common scenario where user leave the google home page tab). and definitely pacman homepage consumes more energy (video + audio) than regular homepage.

Turn off your computer. You're wasting more energy than pacman

Write an e-mail to Google to complain about it, if it bothers you. But keep in mind that sending an e-mail probably takes more energy (think of all those servers, the network traffic etc.) than a few hundred people playing Pacman for two minutes.

You could try using Google Power Meter to find out if Pacman uses more energy than the standard home page.

I think your comment belongs in this list:

I think having your homepage set to Google is not green. Think about all of those electrons being wasted when people open up their browser and http calls are being made for a page that they are not going to use. The greener alternative is about:bank

Wow, I didn't know there were so many Pacman haters! Incredible how people get all worked up like that.
