I vote for WebSphere as well. IBM provides lots of functionality for portal development, and lots of plugins to assist developing Portal applications using WSAD 5.1.1. Nick [ November 09, 2004: Message edited by: Nicholas Cheung ]

Why?
How about you? What is your preference? In fact, I cant really think of any other good implementation for Portal, except WAS and WSAD. Nick

Because I love WebSphere products I'm daily working with WSAD and WAS, excelent tool, I'm not very experienced with portal solutions, but I suppose it will be great . I must learn about portlets and portals in general. I have a little experience with JetSpeed.

I've just started a Portal Development project, which is based on ATG Dynamo Portal... Well, this is just my first hand-on real project on Portal development... It's good... I've not used others before... Just my 2 cents...

I have worked with Oracle9i Portal2Go, however, I feel it is not that user friendly. After moving to WSAD, I feel the 2 products are came from two different worlds. Nick

And what about HW requirements? WebSphere need a lot of resources.

For Server, WAS 5 is already better than WAS 4.x, and for client, WSAD 5.1.2 is already used less resouces compare to the previous versions. In the past, when I used WSAD 5.0, if I open 2 WSADs, my machine nearly hangs. (My PC is 2.4G CPU with 1G RAM). For WSAD 5.1.2, I can open 2 WSAD without any problems, and I can have other applications running. Thus, I think IBM has improved WAS and WSAD a lot in recent year. Nick

Your PC has enough *power* to work around with WSAD 5.1.2. However, if you use WSAD 5.0, I am a bit wonder you will find it very slow. Thus, you might try to upgrade your WSAD to at least version 5.1.0. Nick

128 MB is only for Windows, if you are using them.
