jdbc and apostrophes

For the jdbc assignments is it considered overkill to deal with titles, stars or descriptions with ' in the text? For example, a title like My Best Friend's Dog or a star like Rosie O'Donnell breaks the SQL. Should those ' be escaped first or does one KISS it off?

I think it is a good thing if your code can handle that situation, but it's not required to pass the assignment.
