Top Ten Reason's to Take the SCJA Exam.

10. The SCJA Exam is relatively easy and can be achieved through a couple months of studying.

9. Sitting the exam will get you familiar with the exam-taking process if and when you decide to take more challenging exams.

8. Studying for the SCJA exam will technically assist you in preparation of the much more difficult, though related, SCJP exam.

7. You will be learning a high-level programming language that is seated well on the evolutionary path of programming languages. It draws from the strengths of previous languages and if you decide to move onto another language in the future... I'm sure that the new future language will draw on the strengths of the object-oriented Java programming language. So your time investing is not wasted.

6. In support of studying, you'll have an excuse to learn the integrated development environment (IDE) that you always wanted to (e.g., NetBeans; http://www.netbeans.org).

5. Building Java programs is fun and rewarding. You can implement that algorithm you always wanted to!

4. Once you pass the exam, you should be sent a certificate, Sun Certified Java Associate card, pin and congratulations letter.

3. Your boss may give you a raise or a bonus. At the least, he/she will be proud of you and will appreciate you strengthening your skills for the team. Note: If you don't have a boss, passing the exam may help you get one.

2. You'll be able to post your results on the SCJA Wall of Fame; http://faq.javaranch.com/java/ScjaWallOfFame.

1. You will establish a strong foundation for your Java-related career by firmly understanding Java fundamentals and Java-related technologies.

Indeed. This certification really gives candidates a great overview of the Java language, along with a great deal of knowledge of important Java technologies - something the SCJP exam doesn't do. For a Junior programmer, someone that needs to work with a variety of technologies such as Servlets, Micro-devices, messaging and EJBs, this certification is extremely pertinent.

....that's putting it quite mildly...... Tell it like it really is....There is a significant difference in the sweat factor between sitting the SCJA and the SCJP exams...
