Do not always trust Google Maps suggested walking routes. The word of caution is right : "Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.". It looks like "walking" also includes "swimming". From the daily WTF :

I searched the same and Google does mention about ferry. and I am wondering why someone wants to walk 350+ miles. 
But going through France is not correct.
