Problem with JTabbedPane header

Hi all, i'm a frequent user of the forum but this is the first time i have not found a solution to the problem i'm dealing with.
Ii'm working on an application with a JTabbedPane that should look like this:


So far i have overwritten BasicTabbedpaneUI to give my own panel the desired effects in tabs and i have also extended JTabbedPane class to add the logo image behind the tabs. Now my tabbedpane looks like:


The worst part is trying to add other panel in the header of the JtabbedPane, the panel with the red border in the first image. I thought something like using a GlassPane to show the elements in the outer pane, but due to my app requirements it should be in the same component...

Anyone has an idea of how to solve this problem? Any guidelines would be appreciated.
