Can anybody tell me how the method getDataSource() of org.apache.struts.action.Action class returns the DataSource Object?

What I want to know is does it do the lookup(JNDI Context) everytime the method is called.

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
