Could you be more specific? I'm sure that at any moment in time, somewhere, someone just scored a goal.
Or was this meant to be generic to ANY game of soccer/football?

Landon Donovan, less than three minutes left to play in penalty time, after 91 minutes of tension, scored on Algeria for a 1-0 victory, winning the group for the USA and advancing to the next round. Hollywood could not have written it better.

Yes. and like all good, true, red-blooded Americans, I don't pay any attention to soccer.

I disagree. Hollywood would have had more ninjas, and less vuvuzelas.

Or at the very least they would have had Donovan come on as a substitute less than two minutes earlier.

I found out at 12:30 Eastern when someone announced it before a meeting. Or lunch party depending on your point of view.

USA - Well done on that - looks like Ghana will be a more dificult test!
But oh no - that means England get to play Germany (again!)... Our own fault really...

Yeah - "Yes. and like all good, true, red-blooded Americans, I don't pay any attention to soccer." - don't think it will ever be that popular in America...

I think it's making gains. An enormous number of kids play it these days. Winning the world cup would go a long way of course

USA are 1-Nil down, after some questionable defending in the first half.... They don't seem to be pressing the opposition when they have the ball.
Second half now - and they are playing a lot better, chasing the game and look good coming forward...

They're tied at the end of regular play; in this round, that means a rest period, followed by mandatory 30 minutes of overtime, followed by a penalty shoot-out if it's still a draw. Danielle and I are glued to the set.

USA lost 2-1 in extra time. They played some great stuff - American football (sorry Soccer ) has improved a lot. Did themselves proud.

Sorry guys. Both teams were kind of on the same level, IMO. But during extra time, they were physically exhausted.

Wish us luck tomorrow against your former colonial masters

You don't need luck, England's team is terrible.

Oh no please not another penalty shot out! Seriously I do hope that England show the same sort of commitment as the Americans. Could be a great game, England is going to have to raise their game - one thing about any German team is that they will work hard, play as a well formed team and grind out a result...
I expect the winners will get to play Argentina and then Brazil - talk about winning the hard way!!

Ghana deserved to win -- they really showed a lot of energy on the pitch. The Americans were dragging their tails the whole time.

They were surprised two times at beginning somehow. One could see over time as a new start. Their switch from offense to defence was too slow sometimes but all in all it was a fast and exhausting match. I really enjoyed wathing it.

I disagree, they just had some players who lacked the tactical knowledge - since they don't play at the top level.
Still a bit improvement. Don't think football [sorry Soccer] will ever be as popular as your other sports...

And Ghana are a decent side. I've been really impressed with them. They look like they are lacking a really good striker, but are organized, physical and skillful. No shame to be beaten by them I don't think (and, if you'll forgive me all you Americans, its nice to still have an African team in the competition).

First a disallowed goal and then an offside goal...!! The quality of refereeing seems to be going down with every game...
