I've been trying to get Servlets3 working, and I've hit a wall.
My approach is to take what I did for the original version, and try to morph it into the new version.
I've got the html tags in the jsp page, the form displays, but I can't get the value= thing to work as it did before using a variable, and the form doesn't work.
I've looked at sun's jguru tutorial for JSP, and it wants me to install and configure tomcat, which I ain't about to do unless I absolutely have no other choice, and it also goes into this whole bean thing in the section on forms, which is just adding to my confusion.
Any suggestions on where I can find some good basic material on JSP and how it works?

Whyyy??

Tomcat's pretty painless to install these days.
Why the resistance?

1) Orion is easier to work with.
2) She already has Orion installed and working.
3) The only reason for her to install Tomcat would be to do the tutorial.

What Marilyn said, Precisely!

Besides being slightly technophobic, (what I don't understand scares me)
my system is a pokey little Gateway circa 98 with a 3gig hard drive and I'm running out of room. Not quite ready to upgrade yet, have to work with what I've got. Also, if configuring tomcat involves anything classpath, I've already had enough classpath trauma this year, thank you very much!
My goal is to re-work the servlets assignments using JSP and MVC2. It's become clear to me that my knowledge of servlets themselves is still very shaky, so the transition to servlets/jsp is confusing me. I need elementary level material that deals with the basics, and only the basics. The jguru stuff looked promising, and maybe I'll try and make it work on orion, once I get my footing, but I don't want to sidetrack into beans right now.

Yes Michael, I got your message late last night. I was subbing at the junior high yesterday, and they have new security in place that won't allow substitutes to log on as a guest, so no internet access anymore
(Someone must have wandered into forbidden territory so they just locked us all out!)
Thank you! Thanks you! Thank you! I can't wait for the UPS man!

Ehhhhhhxcellent. Here's your FedEx tracking number:

468828265315055

also, I've got like 8 computers sitting here doing nothing, including a class pentium with more disk space and I would guess more memory. I can't use all the systems. Would be happy to save a trip to the du--- to, uh, donate one to your learning cause.

I've got my nose pressed to the front window, watching for the FedEx truck.
It's hard to type in this position.
8 computers? Wow. I'm intrigued. The prospect of getting more disk space and faster processing is almost overwhelming! I think we should discuss this further.
I'm getting a crink in my neck.......

It's good that you have started on servlets before JSPs as that's better than the other way round, I believe. If you are still shaky on servlets, why not do more work on servlets? You will then be better placed to work on JSPs.

I agree. Here's the link: http://aspose.com/file-tools
